ITC's
(Instrumental Trans Communication)

What in the world is an ITC? It's not some medical code, at least not for us in the field of the paranormal. It stands for "Instrumental Trans Communication". So what does that big word mean? It comes down to using various audio and video technologies to elicit and record responses from the other side. When we hear about how Edison tried to create his spirit phone, that was more of an ITC device. A device that allows communication between our world and the unseen one. So how does ITC differ from EVP?

Keep in mind that EVPs occur as a recording on a media, either tape or digital audio data. Either way EVPs seem to originate on a purely audio level. EVPs also tend to only be observed after the event. It limits a researcher by having to ask a question then review the data he or she has collected for a possible answer. ITC's are typically real time sessions in which a audio or video device is used to provide two way communication. There are many experimental ITC devices in use in the paranormal filed. Many have heard of the Ovilus or the paranormal puck these devices are said to generate words based on EM field fluctuations etc. Others have heard of "franks box" or the "ghost box", this is basically a radio set to scan the frequency band continuously. User hear bits and fragments of sound and phrases. The theory is that a spirit, ghost, etc can manipulate the energy around the device to make it focus on specific words, phrases and sounds. Others argue that any perceived communication from such a device is exactly that, it is perceived, coincidental and not actual in any way. We won't get into the debate over ITC here, that's for others and it's another article all together. We want to focus on the whys and how's of ITC.

I conducted my first ITC experiment in the late 80s, I had no idea what ITC was or how it worked but I had watched an episode of Unsolved Mysteries in which a researcher had made claims of recording spectral images on his video camera while it was hooked up and pointed toward the television, creating a video feedback loop. After recording the video he would review it, sometimes frame by frame for any sign of a ghostly presence. My attempts at video ITC led to hours of recording rolling static in a dark room and more hours of reviewing frame by frame and slow motion images of the same static. In my experiments I never once made out a face, hand, etc. However I can see how some over zealous and anxious researchers could see patterns in the static. My early results were dismal and so I abandoned the attempt and turned off the cameras.

During this time there was a lot of research being conducted on ITC's. The International Network for Instrumental Trans communication was formed and reported that it's researchers had used ITC techniques and devices to communicate with beings who were not from our physical plain of reality. The long history of both EVP and ITC research seem to point to beings using these devices to help researchers build bridges between our worlds. Is this a good thing? What are the ramifications of this trans communication? Who are we talking to and who is giving us directions on how to improve on these communications? Some believe we are dealing with extra dimensional or alien beings, others call them angels and demons, while others still say they are just ghosts and spirits of departed souls who have now tapped into a knowledge base so vast that they can manipulate energies in ways to transcribe their words onto our recording devices.

What ever ITC might be it is being studied by serious paranormal researchers who are convinced that there is indeed a way to bridge the gap between this world and the unseen ones. No one really knows what we may be communicating with, but the data gathered so far suggest that they seem to have the upper hand. They know all about our lives, some have said they watch over individuals, others claim to be beings who have. "Never known a physical body." And are ageless. Some say we should not attempt communication with such beings, and logic would dictate the same. However logic also dictates that beings of such knowledge and power should be able to affect our reality and should have done so by now if they had any ulterior motives other than just communication. There are a lot of questions to be answered on the subject of ITC. Are we opening a doorway to another realm or dimension(s)? Are the being their divided from us for a reason? What are the potential religious and spiritual implications of such contact?

An interesting footnote to this subject comes from two Catholic priests who in the early 50s were recording Gregorian chants. As they were recording they kept having trouble with their machines, after several problems, one of the men, Father Gemelli looked up and asked his father for help. At this time the mans fathers voice was recorded on their device and was said to respond. "Of course I shall help you. I'm always with you." They both excitedly repeated the experiment, they turned on their recorders and this time Father Gemelli heard his father in a good humored voice calling him by a name that only his father and himself had known. He was both excited and fearful and questioned if he had the right to have such a conversation. The men went to Pope Pius XII in Rome to ask him of his thoughts on this subject. the Pope reassured them both and stated. “Dear Father Gemelli, you really need not worry about this. The existence of this voice is strictly a scientific fact and has nothing whatsoever to do with spiritism. The recorder is totally objective. It receives and records only sound waves from wherever they come. This experiment may perhaps become the cornerstone for a building for scientific studies which will strengthen people's faith in a hereafter."

We are researchers in a field of study that is only now starting to be taken a bit more serious. To most, ITC's are nothing more than wishful thinking and matrixing, simple attempts to derive patterns from static and make out words from radio noise. ITC and EVP research may eventually lead to an understanding of a new branch of science. When we are conducting such experiments, we don't know who or what we are communication with, that is important to understand. We can assume that we are talking to ghosts of departed souls that have learned to answer us back. In reality though we really have no clue and we as researchers could be on the edge of a ground breaking achievement dreamed of by humanity and debated by countless scholars, philosophers and priests since the dawn of time, the ability to finally answer without a doubt the timeless question. What happens after death?
