Cooke Funeral Home - Nitro WV
The owners of this funeral home have
asked us to post that they are not interested in any further investigations.
They were gracious enough to allow the GW team to investigate there property
for several days and we thank them. They
have made it clear that they do not wish to be contacted by anyone else regarding
this investigation, we ask that you please respect their wishes as trespassers
will be prosecuted.The structure was built in 1939 by one of the family members. It's purpose from the start was to be a funeral home. It is a well built historic building with living quarters on the second floor leave and an additional unused living area on the third floor which is used primarily for storage.
Most all witnesses were reluctant to talk on camera about what they experienced but allowed us to post there account here. The activity is said to range from hearing foot steps, seeing shadows, and hearing voices where none are present. I myself have been in this building alone well before any investigations were undertaken and have heard loud sounds coming from the basement (morgue area).
The
activity is alleged to be centered around one of the family members who lived
on this unused floor. Upon our investigation we managed to record several
good EVP's and get transient EMF fluctuations in one of the main bed rooms.
On our first investigation we chased around a transient EM field around the
main chapel room. It was in this room that one of our members decided to employ
the flashlight technique. In this experiment the back of the light is unscrewed
just enough that a slight bump on it can cause it to turn on. This is not
a fool proof method and though it looks very impressive we still can not call
it either way. 
It should be noted that a K2 meter was lying next to both the flashlight and a digital audio recorder. The K2 did register briefly it may have been picking up our camera man, however we could not replicate it. There were EVP's recorded in this location though not at the same time as this experiment. The voice on the EVP from the chapel seems to be that of a female and may not be related to any of the other EVP voices we gathered in this building.
NOTE: We recommend that you use headphones in a noise free environment when listening to the EVP's.
Chapel Name EVP This is the EVP from the Chapel area.
Following "Can you tell us your name?" you can clearly here a whisper that does sound female, some can here a name here. Most believe it is Bonnie or Lonny etc, upon checking out the name we found no leads to so if it was a Bonnie or Lonny they may have just been passing through.
Up Stairs EVP (raw) This EVP's would come from the 3rd floor bedroom. It is a funny unnerving EVP, it is funny because upon initial investigation I stated to my camera man that. "If there is something here it will be upstairs". It would seem that someone would beg to differ with me on that comment. Here is one of the best EVP's that I have personally ever heard. Here is the same EVP with volume increased and noise removed NOTE: no further alterations were made to the file.Up Stairs EVP (cleaned).
Here are a few more EVP's these were taken inside a small storage room off to the side on the 3rd floor.
Strange voice near the end of the recording.
"Are you Here?" Answer is 7 seconds in, (low whisper)
"Are you with me?" Answer is low whisper and fast.
There were several other EVP's captured on this day but they had to be thrown out due to back ground noise from down stairs. We have no idea of what to make of these EVP's, we know who was there with us and who was not, the voices we recorded are unexplainable. In the end this investigation would leave all of us asking more questions than helping to answer any. Who were all these voices? Were some just passing through or were they like we were, drawn to this old house. One may think of a funeral home as creepy, or morbid and foreboding but not this one. Never once did we feel any sense of danger or malevolence. If there are still ghosts haunting the Cooke building then they are likely there doing what everyone still does to this day, taking care of the family business.
